DocDrinks Special - Möhl

Dear Docs and Drinkers, and all of you on the way there! We figured, we could all do with a little variation in our lives at the moment, so we’re keeping it up with the DocDrinks Specials. Therefore we set out to discover the surroundings of St. Gallen and visit Möhl, a local ‘Mosterei’ and try some of their excellent musts, juices and fruit wines.

We’ll meet at 7 pm for our regular DocDrinks at the bar at MoMö, the factories museum. As per usual, the first drinks are on us – so be on time. Feel free to visit the exhibition before our event on your own schedule or check out their webpage. It takes approximately 30 minutes to get there by bus or bike - for more detailed information click on the registration link before. Due to the current circumstances and for your own safety, please register for the event to enable an efficient contact tracing in case it may be required. We hope to see you there!

DocNet Summer Party

On September 4th, 2020, we will celebrate our traditional DocNet Summer Party at Frauenbad Dreilinden! Join us and feel free to wear your Hawaiian shirt or grass skirt, starting at 8 p.m.!
The Summer Party is one of DocNet’s flagship events. Meet fellow PhD students and friends, and enjoy a BBQ with delicious Swiss meat, a variety of salads and of course not to forget an ice-cold beer or a tasty glass of wine – or both.

Early-bird tickets for CHF 25 are available until 7th of August (CHF 30 afterwards). As the location is limited to 100 people, we strongly advise you to register as soon as possible. Included in the price are: the entry to Frauenbad, BBQ and drinks. Your entry to the after-party will also be covered, which will take place at the Trischli Club.

Non-member friends of DocNet are of course also invited. Early-bird tickets for non-members are CHF 30 (CHF 35 regularly) and can either be bought by their DocNet friends or at the event.
We hope to see you in September to celebrate the end of summer and enjoy a nice Friday evening together!

P.S.: Due to the current circumstances and for your own safety, we will need your contact information for the registration.

Save the Date - 18th DocNet Symposium

Thriving in chaos – how to master adverse situations. We live in a world of increasing globalization and digitalization, characterized by constant change and uncertainty. The recent pandemic has demonstrated just how fragile the global construct has become, inflicting chaos upon each and every one of us. One thing we know for certain: it is not the first time we witness such chaos and it definitely will not be the last. Therefore, the 18th DocNet Symposium will focus on the topic of thriving in such chaotic situations.

Please SAVE THE DATE: 20. November 2020!

This year again, you have the unique opportunity to participate in the selection of speakers. Tell us by e-mail (symposium@docnet-hsg.ch) which speakers you would like to hear at the Symposium. We are looking forward to many ideas and suggestions!

Wanted - "DocBuddy"!

Each autumn semester the University of St. Gallen welcomes between two and six new international scholars who have been awarded a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship for PhD studies or research stays. Please find further information via the following link: https://www.unisg.ch/en/studium/austauschprogramme/incominggueststudents/programme_eskas

The academic supervisor at the institute is responsible for integrating the scholars into the institute/team.

However, to help new scholars also to learn about the special requirements and procedures at the doctoral level at HSG and to promote the exchange of researchers among the institutes, we are looking for volunteers at the doctoral level who are interested in assisting newcomers to adjust and feel comfortable at HSG, especially for the first weeks of the autumn semester.

If you are interested in becoming a “Doc-Buddy” who provides new international PhD students/researchers with advice and help when adapting to HSG doctoral life or if you need further information, please write an email to helen.obrist@unisg.ch or call at 071 224 2759.

Many thanks for your kind cooperation!

CBS PhD School - Courses in Fall 2020

Please find in the link below an overview of the PhD courses offered in fall 2020 at Copenhagen Business School (CBS) PhD School. The coming fall is packed with courses that were moved from spring 2020 due to the COVID-19 situation. The courses are planned to take place at CBS, but does COVID-19 related matters make this impossible, they will do their best to rearrange their courses to online versions where possible.

Copenhagen Business School offers a range of PhD courses, covering the scientific disciplines of the school. The courses include research design, publication techniques, research methods such as qualitative or quantitative methods, and specialisation courses in eg. organisational analysis, marketing and political science.

Most courses are organised as intensive week-long courses, but other formats are applied as well. The doctoral courses are generally open to students from other countries and institutions, but some restrictions may apply. Please see the individual course descriptions.

Sailing on Lake Constance

Dear doctoral students

We are a small pool of doctoral students who sail regularly on Lake Constance. We would like to expand our group - both experienced sailors and beginners are welcome. To keep it simple, we have started a WhatsApp group for everyone interested. Depending on the wind we go out on the water 1-2 times a week - we will communicate the dates in the group and you can get in touch spontaneously. We will sail either on the J70 or on H-boats of the sailing school Delfino in Staad. Costs per person are about 8-10 CHF per hour. If you are interested, please contact Hannah Leimert (hannah.leimert@unisg.ch) and Max Richter (maximilianalexander.richter@unisg.ch) with your telephone number and your previous knowledge and expectations. We are looking forward to having you with us!

Young Investigator Programme: Events and Workshops Summer 2020!

Our events are free of charge for HSG PhD-students. If you want to register for any of our courses or have questions please send an email to yip@unisg.ch

Please contact the YIP directly in case of any questions regarding further program changes due to the corona virus.
